Nokia 808 PureView Macro capabilities

I have heard that 808 is not good for taking macro shots. Well according to my experience the 808 is one killer Macro shooter if you know how to use it!

Here is my favorite example. This picture is taken in a half-cloudy weather from a distance of 50-100 cm of the subject with full resolution (16:9) => 34 MP. (Blogger has compressed the picture, but don't worry..)

After taking the picture just zoom in and crop out the picture you want. This is a 100% crop from the picture above:

Now tell me, can you take macro photos with the 808 PureView?

YES YOU CAN!

The thing causing problems with people who don't know how to use the phone is that the minimum focus distance is something like 15-20 cm, so you need to go far enough of the subject to be able to focus (you can see the green square instead of the red one when the camera has managed to focus on the subject) and trust that you can zoom in afterwards even though you don't "see" your macro target so well when taking the shot. But afterwards, you will be amazed (if the picture has not shaken, best pictures are taken with good lighting conditions especially in sunshine).

If you use the full resolution image just take the picture and you can crop afterwards (like I did with those pictures). If you use lower resolution (the PureView mode) you can zoom to see the thing you want to shoot in the viewfinder and then snap the shot. For some reason I like to use the full res..

Happy snapping,
JLy
